Kids Packing List for Disney

Preparing and Packing for your Disney vacation together is a fantastic way to complete a requirement where your family works together!

Preparing
Talk about things that should happen around your home before you leave on vacation:

  • Take out the garbage/trash.
  • Clean all of the dishes in the kitchen.
  • Make your bed and clean your room.

Packing
First, create your packing list.

A Scout’s list may include:

  • Clothes for each day of trip
  • Sneakers / Sandals / Flipflops
  • Swimsuit / Towel / Sunscreen / Pool Toy
  • Toothbrush / Toothpaste / Floss
  • Special Toy or Stuffed Animal / Autograph book
  • Spending Money
  • _______________________

Then, match up shirts, shorts, socks, etc for each day of your vacation.  Place in gallon size zip-lock bag – now getting ready each morning is a snap!

Gather the items from your packing list and with your Akelas help, pack them in your suitcase for your trip.

I love making a last minute list just to make sure those things I'm certain to forget actually get done on the way out of town! How old of kids do you let pack for themselves?

I love lists too! Since my son was walking he was packing…to some degree 🙂 First he would pack his toys in a small rolling suitcase or size appropriate backpack. By age 6 or 7 (Wolf Scout), he was packing his clothes. He would match everything up and lay out on his bed. I would then "inspect" and course correct if necessary. Once he crossed over into Boy Scouts, he was 100% on his own. At this point, he has a master list and he just checks it off as he is packing!

Love the idea of using the ziplocs to have your clothes is a great idea, this makes it easy for you and makes your kids feel as though they are doing things on their own.

When my family vacations, we like to unpack in the resort room and stash the suitcases out of the way. Keeping everything together in the gallon size ziplocks keeps his outfits together and no mess in the chest of drawers. This gave him more independence in the mornings too, as he didn't need to wait on me to figure out what to wear for the day. PLUS those bags can be recycled again for packing or for anything wet/yucky while on the trip!
